Self Esteem Affirmations
If you are struggling to feel good about yourself and have little confidence, you may benefit from practising affirmations for self-esteem.
Self esteem affirmations are a way to send your subconscious mind positive messages which will improve your feelings of self-worth and confidence if practised correctly. There are a lot of positive affirmations that will improve your self-esteem and a lot of different methods you can try.
Affirmations are not just about thinking good thoughts. Its more about maintaining a good attitude towards your daily life and work. Sometimes, just changing a few things in your life can make your outlook seem much more positive and you will find it easier to focus on positive thoughts and affirmations.
Most people spend a lot of their time thinking about the negative side of situations to such an extent that there is no room for anything good to happen. Your brain needs positive affirmations to keep it confident and this will only begin to work if you practice affirmations for self-esteem on a regular basis.
Focussing on the good things is a great start to teaching your brain to think positively, a good way to do this is to think of a positive alternative to anything negative that happens in your life. No matter what is happening, you cannot allow yourself to dwell on the bad - it will only make you feel more negative towards your current situation.
Facing Your Fears
Learning to face your fears will help you to stay more positive in general and will also help you to boost your confidence in yourself. If you constantly tell yourself you cannot do something, your brain will begin to believe you and you will have a hard time believing in yourself.
Make a list of the things that scare you most in life and start small, tell yourself you can overcome the fear, whether it's meeting new people, applying for a job you really want or conquering your fear of heights. It may take time but the positive reinforcement will begin to make you believe you really are capable of it, just keep telling yourself you can and soon enough you'll believe it too.
Make a list of the positive aspects in your life. If you actually write down all the good things that you have going for you, you'll soon realise there's plenty to be positive about. This list is the start of your affirmations for self-esteem as you can use these positive statements as affirmations in your everyday life to build your confidence.
How Do You Write Self Esteem Affirmations?
Any phrase can be an affirmation. Write your affirmations down on post-its or somewhere you will see them on a regular basis and read them to yourself, out loud if possible. This positive reinforcement and the act of surrounding yourself with optimistic words will soon begin to have an effect on your life, as you will, with your positivity, make them happen.
Some important things to remember when creating your own affirmations for self-esteem, or in fact for anything, is that an affirmation needs to be:
- In the present tense,
- they must be positive,
- they must be personal and specific to you.
If you keep these three things in mind, you will find it very simple to create affirmations that will help you achieve your goals. Here are some examples. If you would like to be more confident, say "I am confident" rather than "I will be confident" this is important, because the present tense ensures you act now, rather than putting it off till later.
Many, but not all good affirmations start with the word I. There are cases where this isn't appropriate, but prefixing your affirmation with "I" is a good way to start an effective affirmation.
Being specific is also important when creating affirmations as you may relate to examples given in this article, but could you tailor them to be more specific to your own needs? Saying "I am confident" may help you to a certain extent but if your problem lies in having conversations with strangers perhaps then try telling yourself; "I am confident when talking to people I don't know."
Once you begin to follow the suggestions mentioned above and create your own positive lists, daily self esteem affirmations and goals you will find it much simpler to stay positive about things and begin to achieve the things you want in life.
